Basic Concepts of AI

Overview

As we begin to use artificial intelligence, it’s important to recognize that there are many new concepts we need to understand. Terms like machine learning, neural networks, natural language processing, and deep learning are just a few of the key ideas that shape how AI works. These concepts can be complex, but they are essential for effectively interacting with AI systems and leveraging their potential. Understanding them helps ensure that we use AI responsibly and make the most of its capabilities.

For example, in the fields of learning, technology, and artificial intelligence, the terms question and prompt are commonly used. Although they are sometimes used interchangeably, they have different meanings and purposes.

question is a linguistic expression used to obtain information, clarify a doubt, or provoke reflection. It is formulated with the intention of receiving a direct and specific answer.

For example:

  • What is artificial intelligence?
  • How many people live in Canada?

Questions usually have a clear interrogative structure and are aimed at obtaining data, explanations, or opinions.

prompt is an input or stimulus given to a system—especially a language model or artificial intelligence—to generate a response, create content, or perform a task. It doesn’t always take the form of a question, and its goal is to guide the generation of text, images, code, etc.

For example:

  • Write a short story about a dragon that lives in a library.
  • Summarize this article in three key points.
  • Generate an image of a futuristic castle at sunset.

Prompts can be more open-ended or creative, and their effectiveness depends on how well they are formulated
