Which AI Are You?

Overview

Although we often talk about “AI” as if it were a single thing, there are actually many different types of artificial intelligence, each with its own design, purpose, and training. These differences affect how they behave, what they can do, and how they interact with humans. Here’s why:

Purpose of Design

Each AI is created with a specific goal in mind. Some specialize in:

  • Processing natural language (like Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini),
  • Recognizing images (used in security or social media),
  • Making real-time decisions (like AI in self-driving cars or video games),
  • Recommending content (like Netflix or TikTok algorithms).

This specialization shapes how the AI is built and what it can do.

Training Data

AIs learn from vast amounts of data. The quality, quantity, and type of this data greatly influence their personality, biases, and knowledge. For example:

One trained on human conversations may sound more informal or empathetic.

An AI trained on scientific texts will tend to give more technical answers.

Values and Principles

Different companies teach their AIs to follow different values:

  • Claude (by Anthropic) emphasizes safety, respect, and ethics.
  • ChatGPT (by OpenAI) focuses on being helpful, clear, and versatile.
  • Gemini (by Google DeepMind) aims to integrate knowledge with other Google tools.

These differences mean that each AI might respond differently to the same question.

Technical Capabilities

Not all AIs have the same architecture or power. Some can:

  • Hold longer and more coherent conversations,
  • Code in multiple languages,
  • Generate images or audio,
  • Connect to the internet for up-to-date information.

This depends on their version, model size, and access to external tools.
